The first event of 2012, the seventh in the Winter Series of Pro Ams run buy by the Northants PGA saw a return to one of the premier winter courses in the Midlands Brampton Heath. Once again this proved to be a great venue to play at this time of year. The greens staff are to be commended by the way they present the course in a consistently good manner throughout the year but particularly in the winter months. A good field of nineteen teams turned up on a mild, bright but breezy day and it was the home professionals who stole the show in both aspects of the competition.

In the professional event Carl Sainsbury led the way with the only under par round of the day, 4 birdies, two each half secured a 71 one under par victory. He was chased all the way by three players Rodney Holt of Silverstone, Adam Myers – Northants County and Neil Evans. Three players shares the remaining prizes places shooting 73, they were Shane rose, Simon Lilly and Dan Wood.

In the team event the tricky conditions did not deter the local team of Paul Bull, John Faulkner and Vince Wood. Building on Dan’s solid 73 they returned a score of 16 under par to win by six shots. Star of the team was Vince Wood Dan’s father who returned seven net birdies.

The remaining places were tightly contested with three teams on 134 – ten under par. After consulting the back nine count for a back and then the last six holes Mike Gallagher’s team sealed second place, from the sponsor’s team led by Carl Sainsbury, leaving in the 4^th prize place the team of Shane Rose.
