On sunny, dry
but chilly day home professional David Clifford rolled back the
years with a stunning 3 under par 69 to win the Wellingborough
Pro Am sponsored by Glazerite Windows. Playing over his home
course David produced a flawless round carding no bogeys and
three pars. It was great to see David back on the course and
producing such fine form as for most of the last twelve months a
severe back problem hampered his ability to play at all. He
winning margin was two shots, in second equal place were Simon
Lilly (Wellingborough) and Alan Wright (Brampton Heath) who both
recorded one under par 71’s. Both players had more birdies than
the winner but failed to master the greens in the manner David
did and dropped a number of crucial shots. A very closely
contested team competition provided a consolation for Simon
Lilly whose team of local players Chris Elson, Kevin Turner and
Les Bone from Silverstone produced a score of 131 to win by one
from the team of Jason Newman (Cherwell Edge) with Alan Riddle,
Ben Anderson and Steve King. Tied on the same score but losing
out on count back over the back was Bryn Morris (Kibworth) with
Mike Abbotts, John Sullivan and Richard Lawton. One further back
was Mike Gallagher’s (Farthingstone) team of Duncan O’Neill,
Bradley Wardell and Matt Hodgkiss.
